Setting Intentions
It may not always feel this way, but YOU are the author of the book called YOUR LIFE. Every small decision comes from you. If some part of your life is not meeting your expectations, then you have some work to do. Nothing will change if you don't initiate the change.
Intentions = Directions for goals
Goals are set in the future, a desired result. Intentions are how you live every day in order to get closer to those goals. You intend to wake up at a certain time, get ready for the day, go to the store, go to work, text your friend, exercise, etc. If you don't know your destination, how are you supposed to come up with the clear directions to get there? These daily intentions will soon become habits. "Goals direct your future. Your habits decide it."
Write. Them. Down.
Thinking about your goals and intentions is great, but writing them out on paper has a different affect. They may seem scary at first, but soon your mindset will change. The more you think about it in the present, the more real it feels and the more likely you are to complete it in the future.
Perfections should never be an intention.
There are so many routes you can take to get the same result. It's just about finding the one that works for you, not what looks good or what others believe is best for you. If you 'fail' to stick to your plan over and over, it's most likely not the correct plan FOR YOU. And when you do find the one that starts to work, remember, there will be off days or changes in you that force you to re-adjust. This is why it's so important to consistently schedule time to review your life!
One of my personal life goals is to Feel energized and level-headed each day.
Here are some daily intentions that I know will allow me to achieve this goal. Every day may not always play out as perfectly as I have it listed below, but when the intention is there, I am more likely to follow through, allowing them to become habits.
1. I intend to clear my mind daily.
-Block out time to do yoga, meditate, and/or journal first thing in the morning.
-Take breaks throughout the day when I am feeling stressed or overwhelm.
-Read.
2. I intend to eat simple, whole foods, most of the time.
-Plan bulk meals, adding variety each week.
-Block out time to meal prep.
3. I intend to get fresh air daily.
-Drink my water/tea/coffee outside.
-Go for random walks throughout the day.
-Block out time for hiking + watching the sunrise/set.
4. I intend to exercise 5 days of the week.
-Plan a weekly outline of my workouts.
-Block out time to complete my workouts.
5. I intend to stick to my plan
-Spend a small amount of time creating a rough plan for each day.
-Prioritize my daily tasks, so I know how to re-assign them if I run out of time in the day.
-Do not allow temporary adjustments to cause a feeling of overwhelm.
YOUR TURN...
-Get a journal (my preference), download an app, use word or another notes app...
-Write down your top goals. There are no rules, just write out anything that comes to your mind...
-Break down each goal into daily intentions that you think may help you achieve each goal...
-Be sure these intentions are aligned with the type of person you aspire to be...you may want to make a list for this one also...
-Write a clear list to easily review daily, weekly, or however often to help you reinforce these habits...
-Schedule time to review your progress. Start with 2x/week until you find yourself being consistent.
